Nyhet från IAU

IAU låter meddela att de kommer att alternera 100k/24H-världsmästerskapen på vartannat år för att löparna ska kunna få maximal förberedelse inför grenarna:

Frequency of Major IAU Competitions At the last IAU Council meeting, the Executive Council, had an indepth discussion on the frequency of major IAU Competitions.

We have had several cancelations in the past few years and it has been difficult for all the athletes who prepare tirelessly for these championships, federations who are responsible for preparing their team and the IAU who search for other events in case of these cancelations with very little time.

After a very detailed discussion, the IAU Council, decided on rotating 100km and 24 Hour World Championships to alternate years as of 2016.

Also, we have noticed that the 50km and Trail Championships are on an upward scale. The former being the most common pathway for marathoners entering into ultramarathons and the latter being run over a myriad of distances in picturesque settings.

As a result, we want to give both these events an avenue to grow. These two events will be organized in a “world championship” format until 2017 on an annual basis. We will revisit these two events post 2017 events to discuss further on their frequencies.

We already have a venue for the 50km World Championships and have interests for the trail championships. Thus, this is the last year of the 50km Trophy Series and World Trophy Final.

We hope that this new frequency will further the interest in our sport and prevent from the cancellations we have seen in the recent past.
